L.I. Against Domestic Violence offers a holistic approach to services to address all aspects of the lives of victims of domestic violence.

We are currently seeking to fill a number of positions: one (1) PT Shelter Counselor, one (1) Per Diem/PT Group Counselor, one (1) Court Advocate and one (1) Per Diem Shift Worker

Position: Part-time Shelter Counselor

Location: Town of Islip


Hours:
This position requires flexibility to accommodate the scheduling and emotional needs of survivors of domestic violence residing at an emergency shelter (which varies over time). The PT Shelter Counselor will work (14-21 hours a week) to be completed during day and evening hours Monday through Saturday. Times/days vary according to program needs.

Start Date: Immediate

Position Description: The Domestic Violence Counselor will provide counseling services for survivors of domestic violence; including adults and children who have been affected by family violence and are living in a residential setting; providing both group and individual counseling in a shelter for victims of domestic violence. The successful candidate will guide clients through brief solution focused treatment that incorporates the use of cognitive behavioral, role play, supportive strengths perspective, insight, and group counseling. Our Counseling Program provides supportive counseling services to help with self-esteem, safety planning, and to decrease the negative feelings that are a direct result of the violence. With the above, it is our hope that the client will live a life free of violence.

Qualifications: Commitment to working with people whose lives have been affected domestic violence. A Licensed, Master Level Clinician with 2 years’ experience working with victims of trauma in an individual and group setting, knowledge of the varied backgrounds of the Long Island community, an understanding of the dynamics of a domestic violence relationship, trauma informed care, substance abuse, cultural humility and of group dynamics. We will seek a clinician who has experience with adults and can incorporate Cognitive Therapies and Art Therapy into counseling. Bi-lingual in Spanish and English applicants are encouraged to apply.

Position: Per Diem/PT Group Counselor (seeking to fill 1 opening)

Location:

Town of Islip

Hours:

1-2 hours each week per assigned support group with the potential of an additional hour monthly for supervision. Time and Day will be designated in offer letter.

Start Date:

Immediate

Position Description:

The Domestic Violence Counselor will provide group counseling services for children and/or adults that have been affected by family violence. The successful candidate will facilitate clients through brief solution focused treatment that incorporates modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral, Role play, supportive strengths perspective, Art therapy, and Domestic Violence education within a group setting.
Groups are designed to provide supportive counseling services to help with self- esteem, safety planning, and to decrease the negative feelings that are a direct result of violence. With the above, it is our hope that the client will live a life free of violence.

Qualifications:

Three years group counseling experience and a deep understanding of group dynamics; Masters and License in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or related field.

Position: Court Advocate (seeking to fill 1 opening)

Location:

Suffolk County

Hours:

Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

Start Date:

As soon as possible

Position Description:

Court Advocates provides victims of domestic violence with crisis intervention services, information on rights and options regarding the criminal justice process and information & referrals to all LIADV services as well as outside resources.  The Advocate assists clients in obtaining orders of protection and one business day in the LIADV administrative office.  Extensive paid training Monday – Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.  Strong organizational and communication skills required.

Qualifications:

A commitment to working with people whose lives have been affected by domestic violence. Associates degree in related field; experience working with domestic violence issues and/or similar type work with not for profit.

Position: Per Diem Shift Worker (seeking to fill 1 opening)

Location: Town of Islip

Hours: Per diem shift workers are on call to cover shifts at the Safe Harbor Shelter; holidays, evenings, nights and/or weekends

Start Date: Immediate

Position Description:

This position is responsible for the oversight of household/resident activities, maintain the health and safety of facility and residents, completing tasks assigned by the Shelter Director, answering the 24 hour hotline, completing intakes with those seeking shelter within our facility.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent, good communication skills, sensitivity to the needs of survivors of domestic violence
