Stand with us to fight domestic violence on Long Island
Domestic violence is, in many ways, a silent epidemic.
It occurs often: 1 in 4 U.S. women will experience it in her lifetime; 1 in 3 adolescent girls is a victim of physical, emotional and verbal abuse from a dating partner.
It affects both genders: men are victims of nearly 3 million domestic physical assaults in the U.S. And it strikes everywhere, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or income.
Yet, domestic violence remains one of the most chronically under-reported crimes. And, because most people are not trained to recognize the signs, domestic violence is very often under-identified.
The crisis we all pay for
Beyond the terrible suffering of victims and their children, the cost to our community of domestic violence is high. It leads to absenteeism and reduces economic productivity, drives up health care costs, and increases society's bill for law enforcement and legal services.
Help us help your neighbors in need
LIADV is among the largest, longest-established and most successful organizations in the region that is turning victims' lives around and raising community awareness about domestic violence. Our programs help over 14,000 of your neighbors each year stay safe and productive, and make tangible strides in educating young people to break the cycle of violence.
Your donation of any size helps us to maintain our vital programs and reach more of your neighbors in need. All donations are tax-deductible.
