Hours: Saturday and Sunday 4:00pm-12:00am

Position Description:

Under the supervision of the Shelter Director, this staff person will be responsible for activities within the Shelter during designated hours and will report accordingly to the Supervisor. Additionally, the Housing Support Assistant’s duties assigned by the Supervisor according to the needssafety, and wellbeing of the residents as well as the shelter facility. 

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent, good communication skills and commitment to working with families who have suffered trauma. Must be willing to submit to a background check as mandated by New York State licensing agencies.

NOTE: Since the primary purpose of LIADV is to serve clients, it may at times be necessary to modify, redesign or possibly eliminate job functions in order to best serve client’s needs within the constraints of available resources.  In cases such as these, every effort will be made to accomplish changes equitably as possible.  Staff shall be given two week’s notice of proposed revisions.

Hours: Per diem shift workers are on call to cover shifts at the Safe Harbor Shelter; holidays, evenings, nights and/or weekends

Position Description:

This position is responsible for the oversight of household/resident activities, maintain the health and safety of facility and residents, completing tasks assigned by the Shelter Director, answering the 24 hour hotline, completing intakes with those seeking shelter within our facility.

Qualifications:

Location: Town of Islip

Hours: Full Time, 35 Hours per Week. Also requires, evening and weekend hours 3pm-11pm  

Start Date: Immediate

Position Description:

This staff person works within an assigned Suffolk County Police Precinct 3 evenings per week providing crisis intervention services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Two business days are dedicated to providing advocacy services within the Suffolk County Court system and LIADV administrative offices.

Qualifications:

Criminal justice background, social work, paralegal or other human service experience.  Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Location: Ronkonkoma

Hours: 35 hours per week; 11:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday; 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Wednesday to Friday

Start Date: Immediate

Position Description: Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Counseling Services, this staff person is to provide individual and group counseling services for children and adults that have been affected by family violence.  They may be victims of physical, psychological or verbal abuse.  Parenting skills workshops will be held with non-abusive parents for those in need of a parenting program. This staff person will, at minimum, work with the staff to fulfill the goals of the counseling program as outlined in the contract agreement with the funding source and LIADV.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions for children and adults.
  • Provide intake screenings for potential clients.
  • Preparing necessary tools for caretakers of children in counseling to use to evaluate progress of their children.
  • Keep accurate counseling records as well as complete outcome evaluations, etc.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly statistics that are reported to funding sources.
  • Provide group and individual counseling for children in residential program and consult with Shelter Director regarding status of children taking part in program.
  • Assist Youth Educator with preparing creative play activities for children living in the shelter.
  • Work with supervisor, Associate Director and Executive Director in the development of program.
  • Complete and submit all documentation as required by the funding source in a timely manner.
  • Complete hotline training program and act as back-up when needed.
  • Assist in providing in-service training to staff and volunteers as requested.
  • Assist in the development and update of written materials used as handouts for clients and staff, etc.
  • Maintain working relationship with outside agencies/groups and attend meetings.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Maintain policies and image as established by Board of Directors.
  • Attend staff meetings and required training sessions as directed.
  • Assist with fundraising and development; this includes participation at events and input on grant applications.
  • Assess clients for suicide risk and other mental health conditions.

Qualifications: Commitment to working with people whose lives have been affected domestic violence. A Licensed, Master Level Clinician with 2 years’ experience working with victims of trauma in an individual and group setting, knowledge of the varied backgrounds of the Long Island community, an understanding of the dynamics of a domestic violence relationship, trauma informed care and of group dynamics. We will seek a clinician who has experience with adults and can incorporate Cognitive Therapies and Art Therapy into counseling. Bi-lingual in Spanish and English.
